Universidad Iberoamericana Open Landscape
Tijuana, Baja California
Amorphica Design Research Office took on a collaborative project with the Universidad Iberoamericana. One of the projects that were developed in collaboration with the students and some staff was to give life to a very weakened open patio area.
This is the existing building that is over 30 years old as of 2013.
Let the trees breathe: One of the first interventions were to determine and inventory the existing flora of the building’s surroundings. Then start allowing for permeation as well as an open invitation to actually participate in a transitional space, to deliver a more active space. Key is participation and collaboration, without it this space will not thrive. Being that this is a semi-public space, there are necessary social interventions needed in order to connect what has been developed in this area to make it perform.
This is a long term project. The trees are breathing now and the gound is getting greener. Keeping it up is key. Caring for the space is key.
Once a project is delivered there is this kind of letting go and high hope of it surviving, things look good, the garden is growing.
This Master Plan for The Centro Cultural Mirador was commissioned by an agent for the the Cultural Event Entijuanarte
